Raj Kundra, actor Shilpa Shetty's husband, was granted bail by a Mumbai court two months after his arrest on charges of shooting and streaming pornography. For his release, he must post a $50,000 surety bond.
The Mumbai Police submitted a 1,400-page charge sheet in a court on Thursday, detailing charges against the businessman, who has been married to Shilpa Shetty since 2009.
Raj Kundra had asked bail on Saturday, claiming that the investigation was completed and that a charge sheet had been filed.his bail request reportedly also alleged that he was being made a "scapegoat" and that there was not an iota of evidence in the charge sheet that he was actively involved in shooting "alleged questionable content" and streaming it through mobile apps.
The businessman, who was arrested on July 19, said in his bail hearing that he was wrongfully accused and pulled into the case. Raj Kundra, according to the charge sheet, was the "primary facilitator" who, along with other defendants, exploited young women working in the film industry.
The charge sheet said that pornographic videos were posted on numerous websites and apps and that the videos were sold through subscriptions. The charge sheet includes testimony from 43 witnesses, including Shilpa Shetty.
Shilpa Shetty's testimony that she was unaware of her husband's activities since she was preoccupied with her profession was included in the charge sheet. Shilpa Shetty's statement also said she didn't know of the controversial apps "Hotshots" or "Bollyfame", both linked to the porn racket.
