'Director Cast His Girlfriend,' Mallika Sherawat Says About Not Being Cast In Welcome 2
"What do I do if they cast their girlfriend in a sequel, and the hero casts his girlfriend?" the actress stated
Mallika Sherawat, who co-starred in the 2007 film Welcome alongside Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, and Nana Patekar, spoke to Pinkvilla about not getting cast in the sequel. The 44-year-old actress said she was passed over for the sequel, Welcome Back, in 2015, because the director "put his girlfriend in the picture." She did not, however, mention the director's girlfriend's name. Anees Bazmee directed both Welcome and its sequel. The 2015 film starred John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Shiney Ahuja, Ankita Shrivastava, Dimple Kapadia, and Naseeruddin Shah, as well as some newcomers like John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Shiney Ahuja, Ankita Shrivastava, Dimple Kapadia, and Naseeruddin Shah.
Mallika Sherawat, when asked about the potential of a third film in the Welcome franchise, said: "Toh director apni girlfriend ko hi dalega na usmein, Welcome ka sequel banega. Welcome 2 bana toh usmein apni girlfriend ko daal diya batao, ab main kya karun (If a sequel to Welcome is made, only the director's girlfriend would be cast.) He cast his girlfriend in Welcome 2 when it was being made. What am I able to do about it)?"
She added: "This is true. When they make a sequel, they cast their girlfriend, the hero casts his girlfriend, what do I do then? I don't have any boyfriend in Bollywood, I have never been with any actor, director or producer. With me like this is my work, if you think I am worthy of your project I would love to be a part of it. But if a director or a producer or an actor - if they want to cast their girlfriends then it's their choice. What should I do? That is the only reason I lost out (on Welcome Back)."
On the big screen, Welcome Back failed to recreate the magic of the successful film Welcome. On September 4, 2015, it was released.
