Air India Plane Gets Stuck Under Bridge Near Delhi Airport
In a viral video, Air India stated the plane had been deregistered and sold.
An Air India plane stranded beneath a pedestrian bridge has sparked outrage on social media. The aeroplane is seen stuck beneath a bridge near the Delhi airport in footage that has gone viral on the internet. When the destroyed plane, which had no wings, became trapped on the Delhi-Gurugram highway, it was purportedly being carried. The plane did not completely obstruct traffic along the way. Vehicles can be seen crossing on one side of the roadway in the footage, while the jet appears to be blocking the other side.
The video has been watched and shared thousands of times on social media and over messaging platforms like WhatsApp, with many wondering how the aircraft managed to get stuck in the first place. In a statement that Air India shared with ANI journalist Ashoke Raj, the airline said the aircraft had been deregistered and sold off. It was being transported by the buyer on Saturday night when it got stuck under the foot overbridge.
"This is a detegistered scrapped aircraft of Air India which has been sold off," the statement read. "This was transported last night by the party. Air India has got no connection whatsoever with the aircraft under any circumstances." The aircraft did not belong to the airport's fleet, according to a Delhi airport official who spoke to the Times of India.
"The plane does not appear to be part of the Delhi airport's fleet, and it is being transported without wings in the video. It appears to be a scrapped plane, and the driver may have made a decision that was incorrect when transporting it" According to the official. Surprisingly, this isn't the first occasion that passing motorists have been perplexed by the sight of a jet stalled on a highway.
In West Bengal's Durgapur, a vehicle hauling an abandoned India Post aeroplane became stuck under a bridge in 2019.
